fasta pasta and arugula salad the bulk of these items should be in your pantry or fridge: put them on your weekly shopping check list have some packets of pasta in the pantry for those quick stay-in suppers I always have a chunk of unsliced bacon in the freezer. slice it into cubes and fry it up for a pasta or salad...toss a chunk into a soup for instant stock flavor...or slice it fine and fry it up with eggs for breakfast anchovies live forever in their little can...between the salt and oil, they will outlive anything. I keep them in the fridge, like bacon, they add a whallop of flavor. just fry them up in some olive oil and garlic, mush them into a paste and don't tell anyone that they're there (there is an unnatural prejudice against the poor buggers, and you can really only go so far with authentic italian cooking without them) oregano, parsley, rosemary etc... are so easy to grow if you have a garden or room for half a dozen terracotta pots the arugula and salad whatnots can be added to a weekly shopping list, so that you already have some fresh greens on hand
