fuss factor: strawberry shortcake playdate 2/5* * depending upon nap time, diaper status, teething, appetite and, let's face it, whether the kids even like you!

buttermilk shortcakes with strawberries and cream these shortcakes were perfect to cook with kids because they were like making biscuits or scones; you just throw everything into a bowl and start squeezing it with your hands...it's as easy as making mud pies! roll out the dough and pat it into balls... I took care of the hot stuff (the oven and so forth) whilst kate chose the best strawberries we whipped the cream together, spread the jam on the warm shortcakes, piled our strawberries and cream on top. squashed it all down with another shortcake and sprinkled 'fairy dust' (okay...confectioner's sugar) on top we made a special small one for her, and another for her folks all that baking wears a girl out; she went straight to the bath and then to bed... ...which left the evening free for her parents to have a home-date; listen to something other than the Wiggles, share a spoon for the shortcake and then do a spot of spooning themselves
